Teresa Levice Day is Larry Crosby’s grandmother, the first wife of Clarence Wallace Crosby. He never really knew about her until the family research in 2000. She had died in 1916 and was not mentioned to him in his early days.
She was only a name on a chart until he visited Aunt Maxine — wife of John Ariel Crosby — in Salem, Oregon, in 2000. Maxine was the source of the pictures and of The Days of Yore, the history of the Day family in Canada.
In Orlando, Florida, he found the family letters Jesse Crosby had kept in Cuba. Lula Keyes, Jesse’s daughter, gave them to Larry in 2000. Many were written by Clarence. Teresa is in those letters.
The most important find was later. In 2018 Larry and cousin Paul — son of Ariel and Maxine — went through Aunt Maxine’s trunk again. At the bottom was a torn letter with no envelope. It was from Teresa to “friends,” signed “From your Sister Teresa.” It was written sometime in 1915. Someone who received it must have sent it to Maxine. Finding it was an accident of history.
The letter added personality and values to the pictures and the chart. Larry wished there were more of her letters. He would have liked to have known her.
